About Journal of Immune Based Therapies and Vaccines

What is Journal of Immune Based Therapies and Vaccines?

Journal of Immune Based Therapies and Vaccines (JIBTV) is an open access, peer-reviewed, online journal dedicated to all aspects of therapeutic and prophylactic applications of immunology.

JIBTV aims to advance the understanding and application of specific immunological mechanisms, the role of antigens and antigenic epitopes in eliciting biological responses, immune correlates of protection and activity, strategic regulatory and clinical development considerations, adjuvants, formulations, delivery and devices, and other issues and findings relating to accelerating the discovery and advanced development through licensure, distribution and use of efficacious vaccines and immune based therapies (IBTs). The areas of vaccines and IBTs encompass many different disciplines, including infectious diseases, transplantation, cancer, allergic disorders, and autoimmune diseases.

Due to the rapid pace of global research and development in this area, there is a need for an open access journal that is focused on both advancements in the development and administration of immune based therapies and vaccines as well as on progress in overcoming obstacles to licensure, marketing, and access to these important biopharmaceuticals; JIBTV provides a forum to address these issues. Furthermore, the journal recognizes the importance of IBTs and vaccines in resolving many pressing issues confronting world health. Therefore, manuscript submissions which contribute to accelerating the development, implementation and use of IBT and vaccines are actively encouraged from individuals located anywhere in the world.

The goal of this journal is to provide an objective peer review process conducted by those knowledgeable in the field, and to facilitate the distribution of knowledge to those involved in development and implementation of IBT and vaccines for human and veterinary indications. The mission of this journal is the rapid, barrier-free dissemination of high-quality scientific work; its open access model is ideally suited to advance the field through presentation of discoveries, debates and hypotheses.

Content overview

Journal of Immune Based Therapies and Vaccines considers the following types of articles:

  • Original research - reports of data from original research related to IBTs and vaccines, immune pathogenesis of diseases targeted by IBTs and vaccines, definition and assessment of correlates of protection and activity, and the outcomes of related clinical research.
  • Short reports - brief reports of data from original research related to IBTs and vaccines, immune pathogenesis of diseases targeted by IBTs and vaccines, definition and assessment of correlates of protection and activity, and the outcomes of related clinical research.
  • Reviews - summaries of recent insights in specific research areas within the scope of Journal of Immune Based Therapies and Vaccines. They can be submitted either upon specific invitation or editorial acceptance of an author's proposal. To submit a proposal, authors should send a draft working title and abstract to the Editorial Office, and include both a statement addressing their expertise in the target area and a short summary addressing both the scientific relevance and the lack of recent reviews on the topic.
  • Commentaries - short, focused and opinionated articles on any subject within the journal's scope. These articles are usually related to a contemporary issue, such as recent research findings, and may be commissioned from opinion leaders in the field. The subject of submitted commentaries may include clinical development, regulatory affairs, biostatistical considerations, and novel strategies which address the need for accelerating the advanced development and licensure of IBTs and vaccines.
  • Letters to the Editor - these can take three forms: a substantial re-analysis of a previously published article or a substantial response to such a re-analysis from the authors of the original publication, or an article that may not cover 'standard research' but that may be relevant to readers.
  • Methodology articles - presentations of a new experimental method, test or procedure. The method described may either be completely new, or may offer a better version of an existing method. The article should describe a demonstrable advance on what is currently available.
  • Meeting reports - a short description of a conference that the author has attended, which focuses on the key developments presented and discussed at the meeting.

Peer review policies

Manuscripts submitted to Journal of Immune Based Therapies and Vaccines will be reviewed by experts in the field. If deemed acceptable for publication, articles may require minimal or substantial modification. Authors are requested to respond to each reviewer comment. Ultimately, the Editor-in-Chief or editorial board members make the decision to accept or reject. Following acceptance all efforts are made to publish the article as quickly as possible.

Edited by Robert W. Malone, Journal of Immune Based Therapies and Vaccines is supported by an expert Editorial Board.

Publishing in Journal of Immune Based Therapies and Vaccines

All articles are listed in PubMed immediately upon acceptance (after peer review), and are covered by PubMed Central, CAS and Embase.

Articles in Journal of Immune Based Therapies and Vaccines should be cited in the same way as articles in a traditional journal. However, because articles in this journal are not printed, they do not have page numbers. Instead, they have a unique article number.

The following citation:

J Immune Based Ther Vaccines 2004, 2:1

refers to article 1 from volume 2 of the journal.

As an online journal, Journal of Immune Based Therapies and Vaccines does not have issue numbers. Each volume corresponds to a calendar year.
